Started the week in the valley. I had the opportunity and pleasure to be invited at the IBM Smartcamp Lancheon hosted by Brian Cowen TD, An Taoiseach Prime Minister of Ireland. An amazing day where the IBM Venture Capital Group selected a number of investments in cleantech, waste management and cloud computing analytics.
I was particularly impressed by a startup that has developed a resource management platform for forestry. A technology that can cut cost and optimize a precious resource for the next years: wood. Through laser technology the forest is measured, information is collected and through a web platform can be managed in real time.
Plants are a precious resource and are 'cut' on demand. Fundamentally an inventory management system that allows to cut plants the last minute and according to order and specifications of real customers. Inventory of live trees.
Quite amazing metrics, great savings and strong green case.
Great event where I was invited among the Kauffman Fellows by our colleague Will, from Ireland. Who works in a 75 million resident venture capital fund.
On the weeked, i visited some friends from high school times back in LA, where I discovered that a friend is married to one of the top professional surfers worldwide. Shane Desmond, number 2 at the Maverick Big Wave Contest! This is what we are talking about. Respect.
