Since Y Combinator accepted its first cohort of internet start ups in 2005, the number of accelerator programmes has grown exponentially in the US, and they are now spreading throughout Europe. Highly selective, they provide a cohort of startup teams with time-limited 'boot camp' support programmes, experienced mentors and often seed investment in exchange for equity. These are not the business incubators of old.
Yet what impact are they having? Who benefits? Is the model limited to web and mobile companies? What are the limits to growth? Is there a case for public sector support?
Join those operating and investing in accelerator programmes across Europe for a unique insight into different models. NESTA will present the latest research on the phenomenon followed by a highly interactive debate on the opportunities and challenges to the growth of accelerators in the UK and Europe. Speakers include Reshma Sohoni, Seedcamp; Jon Bradford, Springboard;Carsten Kolbek, Startup Bootcamp; Alice Zagury, Le Camping; Paul Miller, Bethnal Green Ventures.
